(i) TEARS not CHEERS

Tears but no cheers

Fear but no killers

Peers but no glasses with beer

Pain but no thorns

Absolutely nothing here,

Just an ink tormented with pain

Bruises from a fight that ended

with no gain

All wet and soaked in tears

not rain

(T.awiah)

Is it okay if I choose to stand

To watch the leaves fall

Because sometimes the

darkness will choose you

Even when you hide,

Even while you run,

You Take in a deep breath

And become heavy with darkness

Again,

Woezor and Akwaaba to

a page filled with pain but no pleasure

A chapter filled with screams

but no torture

and a tunnel filled with smoke

but no filter

(ii) SEYRA

They always say heavy is the head

that wears the crown

Penning these words reminded

of the fact that

Heavy is the heart that bears the pain

The pain of not only losing a mother

but a guardian and a protector

Truth be told, I always knew

my guardian angel was the one they

called Seyra

This woman blessed me with love

even more than the love Isaac

got from Sarah

Seyra was a genius at inculcating values

and, a mastermind at saving lives

Lives of not only her bloodline

but the entire universe

This time around,

Words have failed me

Tears have soaked me

Pain has betrayed me

and your smile has abandoned me

(iii) XEDE NYUIE

Every soul must taste death

Man or woman existing by birth

Tears and cheers as you

you take your first bath

Tears and wails as you

take your last bath

Grateful for the epic memories

shared even though they

could have been more

Grateful for the love

you showed us to the core

Akpe for riding with us

on this journey without a road map

(Cormla Poet)

Do you already have wings like an angel?

Dance above the clouds and save

me a place in heaven

Watch over your son from every angle

My only prayer when it’s 11:11

I know you are the music playing in my heart

Keep playing till I see you again

Keep playing, my demons dance away

You stood by us without

stopping to take a nap

May your rest not only be peaceful

but heavenly and,

may you continue to look

after us evenly

THE LADY IN WHITE (poetry by: Poetic Dela)

DEDICATED TO MY LATE MOTHER, INNOCENTIA SEYRA DZIDEY.

Great men leave legacies and,

Great women leave memories behind

The lady in white left Legacies

to inspire the next generation and,

memories to keep the spirit of the family alive

Great men discover new paths to success

Great women unearth talents and motivate

The lady in white left behind a

path for her family to never get lost and,

the motivation to strive for the best

Again, Great men strive for excellence and,

Great women strive for prestige

The lady in white strived for

truth in excellence and,  the admiration of thousands

A synonym for greatness

The joy of the family

The angel that saves lives

That’s who the lady in white is.

TWENTY TWENTY (Poetry by: Poetic Dela)

DEDICATED TO EACH AND EVERYONE WHO CHANCES ON THIS PIECE. ✊🏾

Just few hours to the start of a New Year,

At 10:00pm,

the church witnessed a great-feast.

Gratitude for “Nyame’s” endless

and unlimited grace.

Prayer points focused on a better year.

At midnight, fireworks took over the skies.

Screams from the

Presbyterian Church could be

heard miles away.

The congregation danced

their hearts out to music from the

Winneba Youth Choir.

Mobile phones buzzed with

goodwill messages.

As usual,

January displayed its obtuse character.

February brought lots of love into the air.

Patriotism was given birth to by March.

"Yɛn Ara Asase Ni" was on the lips of

most Ghanaians.

Then suddenly,

a huge storm hit our planet,

Fear engulfs the heart of the Ghanaian.

Alcohol based hand

sanitizers and nose masks

becomes mandatory.

Restrictions on movements

was the only way out.

Death and it’s entourage paid

 visits to the homes of

our loved and mighty ones.

Fear, preventive tips and

protests became the new normal.

But the light of a brighter

day is what we yearn for!

Hope . Yesu.

NICE GUYS FINISH LAST (Written by: Poetic Dela)

DEDICATED TO ALL GUYS WHO ARE CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH TRYING TIMES IN THEIR RELATIONSHIPS.

She was like,

You remind me so much of my ex

Your fashion sense and favorite series

is proof

not leaving out your favorite position

during sex

I’m sorry I put you through

all this, she said

I’m just messed up and not

the right girl for you I guess

I insist we go back to being friends

Not minding these risks

These words left numerous

scars on the face of a believer

A soul devoid of impurity

and yet to be inducted into

the hall of fame of heart-breakers

Eons back,

Love was the air he gasped for

The only meal we feast on

and the only water he used to quench

his thirst

In his quest to

unravel the mysteries surrounding

 this beast

Bro Codes were violated

He had eyes for only that

big booty girl

Testimonies about heartbreaks

sounded like fairy tales to him

His gallery was infested with images

of the girl, he could kill for

Deep into the moment

he was trapped in

His dignity as a man was traded

for a few rounds of pleasure

His brains, corrupted with lust

Blue ticks got the best of him

Jealousy exposed the excess love he had

Music became a therapy

Silence, a new friend

and poetry, a right-hand man

The bitter episode

granted him a valid reason

to be inducted into the hall of fame

of heartbreakers

DUMSOR AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL (Poetry by: Poetic Dela)

DEDICATED TO EACH & EVERYONE GOING THROUGH TRYING TIMES!✊

Lights are meant to shine

Darkness, a villain to illumination

Shadows act as shields to identities,

Fear, a neighbor to the blind

We crave strength in the toughest moments

Greatness and resilience lay in some

of our iconic monuments

All we possess is scripts about taming

both fear and torments

We dance to music played without

any instruments

Our cognition fathers our epic memories

The only path of reliving these moments

exposes us to the villain of illumination

A river full of tears is what hinders this opportunity

Uncertainties about befriending trust

deepens the pain inflicted on us by our past

They say Joy comes in the morning,

but we only see joy through the sights of Owls

Metaphors failed to describe what

the heart desired to spill

We are slaves on this journey they call Life

A journey where,

road signs are mirages

Yes!

We are slaves trying to escape from

our masters through this tunnel

Our hearts are overflowing with fear

But all we know is,

Going back is not an option

The Light of day is all we hope for

 The closer we get

the more we are exposed to the uncertainties

of a brighter world!

Lobi Lobi Dey Cost (Poetry by: Poetic Dela)

DEDICATION
I dedicate this poem to my father, the Late Cosmos Fonu Kpatakpa

LOBI LOBI DEY COST

Show me a human without feelings
And I will show you Ghana Cedis
worth more than dollars.
Show me a Ghanaian lady
who hates the sound of MOMO alerts
And I will show you a human heart that pumps
dollars

Or better still
Let me show you a 14th February devoid
of sex
And in return , show me an ATM machine
that brings out blood instead of cedis

They say love don't cost a thing,
But it seems we forget.
The late night chats, the arguments and
 quiet tears, our fears.

When alone, the mind plays tricks
Just blink and you'd think one's cheating
or ignoring you.
We forget we had separate lives ,
before our hearts entangled.

If love was free then,
Boys wouldn't take Qwikloans to take her
out for shopping

If love was free,
Aku Shika's family wouldn't
provide that tall list ,
In exchange for her hand in marriage

Again,
If love was free
Then heartbreaks will be mirages
Sex, wouldn't sell faster than coke
Women wouldn't be feared after Nyame
And relationships will end in cheers
not in tears.

Love they say is costly.
The price tags can stress you.
But who do you blame for
the high cost of love?
Do we blame the telenovelas
on UTV?
Or
We blame the Nigerian movies
shown on ROK 2?
Or better still,
Let's cast the blame on
our expectations.

Yes because,
If Aku Shika expectations were less,
She wouldn't stress Alphonse with harsh
conversations like "Get rich Alphonse!
Your hobby should be making money
Not always Lobi Lobi.

Get an office ,so we can get more
to kiss more
Not in the lobby, make moves
Forget the romance and stop acting
 like a zombie"

Harsh and huge expectations
break long lasting relationships

What is your expectation in love?

Love.

The Supa Striker (Poetry Written By: Poetic Dela)

The Cheers! The Chants! The Euphoria!
we experience, is made possible by
beauty of the game

The Skills! The Strength! The Goals!
we see are made possible by The Supa Striker

Some call him the "King of goals"
Others call him the "Goal Machine"
I call him "The Supa Striker"
How do you call him?

Yes! He is The Supa Striker just because
of his amazing skills on the ball
and how beautifully he makes goals easy

Yes! The Supa Striker just because
of how humble he is
and good looking as well

But these are words one would
see as praises to The Supa Striker
years back

But today, these words
represent tributes to The Supa Striker
Yes!
The Supa Striker has embarked on a journey
of no return
A journey to a world where
Tears are no more
Hunger, non-existent
and pain, dead!

He suffered in his last days on earth
Now he will smile in eternity

Manuel!
You were the Blackstar during the tournament
way back in 2008
Even though you could not turn 80
You will be idolized till your 18th generation

Journey well Legend!

Tears,
Poetic Yesu.
