(i) TEARS not CHEERS

Tears but no cheers

Fear but no killers

Peers but no glasses with beer

Pain but no thorns

Absolutely nothing here,

Just an ink tormented with pain

Bruises from a fight that ended

with no gain

All wet and soaked in tears

not rain

(T.awiah)

Is it okay if I choose to stand

To watch the leaves fall

Because sometimes the

darkness will choose you

Even when you hide,

Even while you run,

You Take in a deep breath

And become heavy with darkness

Again,

Woezor and Akwaaba to

a page filled with pain but no pleasure

A chapter filled with screams

but no torture

and a tunnel filled with smoke

but no filter

(ii) SEYRA

They always say heavy is the head

that wears the crown

Penning these words reminded

of the fact that

Heavy is the heart that bears the pain

The pain of not only losing a mother

but a guardian and a protector

Truth be told, I always knew

my guardian angel was the one they

called Seyra

This woman blessed me with love

even more than the love Isaac

got from Sarah

Seyra was a genius at inculcating values

and, a mastermind at saving lives

Lives of not only her bloodline

but the entire universe

This time around,

Words have failed me

Tears have soaked me

Pain has betrayed me

and your smile has abandoned me

(iii) XEDE NYUIE

Every soul must taste death

Man or woman existing by birth

Tears and cheers as you

you take your first bath

Tears and wails as you

take your last bath

Grateful for the epic memories

shared even though they

could have been more

Grateful for the love

you showed us to the core

Akpe for riding with us

on this journey without a road map

(Cormla Poet)

Do you already have wings like an angel?

Dance above the clouds and save

me a place in heaven

Watch over your son from every angle

My only prayer when it’s 11:11

I know you are the music playing in my heart

Keep playing till I see you again

Keep playing, my demons dance away

You stood by us without

stopping to take a nap

May your rest not only be peaceful

but heavenly and,

may you continue to look

after us evenly
