DEDICATION
I dedicate this poem to my father, the Late Cosmos Fonu Kpatakpa
LOBI LOBI DEY COST
Show me a human without feelings
And I will show you Ghana Cedis
worth more than dollars.
Show me a Ghanaian lady
who hates the sound of MOMO alerts
And I will show you a human heart that
pumps
dollars
Or better still
Let me show you a 14th February devoid
of sex
And in return , show me an ATM machine
that brings out blood instead of cedis
They say love don't cost a thing,
But it seems we forget.
The late night chats, the arguments and
quiet tears, our fears.
When alone, the mind plays tricks
Just blink and you'd think one's cheating
or ignoring you.
We forget we had separate lives ,
before our hearts entangled.
If love was free then,
Boys wouldn't take Qwikloans to take her
out for shopping
If love was free,
Aku Shika's family wouldn't
provide that tall list ,
In exchange for her hand in marriage
Again,
If love was free
Then heartbreaks will be mirages
Sex, wouldn't sell faster than coke
Women wouldn't be feared after Nyame
And relationships will end in cheers
not in tears.
Love they say is costly.
The price tags can stress you.
But who do you blame for
the high cost of love?
Do we blame the telenovelas
on UTV?
Or
We blame the Nigerian movies
shown on ROK 2?
Or better still,
Let's cast the blame on
our expectations.
Yes because,
If Aku Shika expectations were less,
She wouldn't stress Alphonse with harsh
conversations like "Get rich Alphonse!
Your hobby should be making money
Not always Lobi Lobi.
Get an office ,so we can get more
to kiss more
Not in the lobby, make moves
Forget the romance and stop acting
like
a zombie"
Harsh and huge expectations
break long lasting relationships
What is your expectation in love?
Love.
