Empty Huts (Written by: Poet Dela)

I woke up this morning
to the sound of the gong
The words being uttered
by the gong beater
Seek to abuse the muse
my listening pleasure
had been treated to

This news sounded
so bitter
to the extent that
I had to seek comfort
In the garment of a hoax

Suddenly,
I heard people murmur
That noise was behind
my window
Now I knew all was not well

I realized an unusual situation
The birds on the trees became mute
The hut of my neighbor whose
children normally cry became mute

Now the garment of the hoax
became very uncomfortable
I decided to confirm the news

My sight met an empty hut
upon my arrival at Nii's hut
Joojo's hut wasn't far
I knew at least
I would meet my good friend
still laying on his mat
enjoying the undescribable
pleasure from his mat

But my expectations was
doomed to disappointment at the sight
of my good friend's empty hut

Now I was totally convinced all
wasn't well
I decided to go back to my hut
and wait patiently
Immediately I was about to
leave

I heard women crying
The sound came from the
village square
which was few huts from
that of Joojo's

My curiosity went wild
without thinking
I ran to the village squad

It was a terrifying sight
honestly
I met Tawiah and Naana
in tears
I decided to satisfy both my ears
and curiosity by asking them
what was wrong

Their answer felt like a knife
being pierced not only in
my heart
but my five senses as well

A great tree has fallen
The river has gone dry
The sky looks cloudy

Busumuru
the highest sword
cuts no more

The sword of allegiance
Loses it's warrior

Busumuru Busumuru Busumuru
Journey well!
